What are the visa rules for short-term stays in Australia?

Mexicans who immigrate to Australia from Mexico on a short-term basis, which is defined as a stay with a duration of maximum 90 days, must apply for a visa, just like any other foreign nationals (Australia grants only few exemptions, such as it is the case of New Zealanders).

For short-term stays, there are 2 visa options, as per the rules on immigration to Australia:

  1. the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) – a type of electronic document that is very simple to acquire and which is obtained simply by completing a very basic form rather than applying for a visa;
  2. the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) – a standard visa that is obtained following the standard procedures for immigration to Australia.

The ETA is available for many nationalities, but not for Mexicans, as such, persons who will immigrate to Australia from Mexico should comply with the requirements for the 2nd option – the Subclass 600, which is issued for stays of up to 3 months.

As such, it is necessary to verify all the steps with the Australian Embassy operating in Mexico.
