Foreigners can migrate to Australia under certain conditions. The basic requirements foreigners must comply with is to have a valid passport and a visa designed for the purpose of the stay. The same is true for persons who immigrate to Australia from Turkey.
Turkish nationals can easily immigrate to Australia, but for this, they need to complete prior immigration steps for the issuance of the visa. This procedure must be completed in all cases, including when arriving here for tourism purposes.

Immigrate to Australia from Turkey – main visa types
Turkish nationals can apply for a variety of visas that are stipulated by the law on immigration in Australia. They can apply for short-stay visas and they can apply for visas that grant the right to residency in Australia.
Provided that foreigners meet the prerequisites of a visa type, they can apply for visitor visas, business/investment visas, work visas, student visas, humanitarian visas and so on. The application process must be initiated with the Australian consulate or embassy working in Turkey.
One of the most common ways to migrate to Australia for a limited amount of time is by applying for the Subclass 600 visa (the Visitor Visa), which can be issued for 3 main reasons, as follows:
- Visitor visa Subclass 600 – Tourism stream;
- Visitor visa Subclass 600 – Business Visitor stream;
- Visitor visa Subclass 600 – Sponsored Family stream.
The application requirements vary based on the stream selected by the foreigner. For example, for the 3rd case, the application can be made only from Australia and it needs a sponsor. Our Australia migration lawyer can present more details on the requirements applied to the Sponsored Family stream.
Please know that the Business Visitor stream does not allow foreigners to set up a business here, it is issued only for short-term business travels (such as for conferences, establishing a business partnership, delegations, negotiations, etc.).
This visa stream does not grant the right to work in this country and those who seek employment must make the necessary arrangements for other visa types. You can address our immigration lawyer in Australia if you want to apply for a work visa.
What visas are available for temporary work in Australia?
With regards to employment of foreign nationals, Australia grants 2 categories of visas: visas for temporary work and visas for long-term/permanent employment. Visas for temporary work can be obtained following a much simpler route, compared to long-term/permanent visas and the processing of the documents usually take a shorter amount of time.
However, it must be noted that these visas do not allow foreigners to apply for Australian citizenship (this can be achieved only through naturalization, which can be completed only through permanent residency). Some of the short-term employment visa options are:
- Subclass 400 – Temporary work (short-stay specialist) visa;
- Subclass 403 – Temporary work (International Relations) visa;
- Subclass 407 – Application for Training visa;
- Subclass 408 – Temporary Activity visa;
- Subclass 462 – Work-Holiday visa.
For each visa class there are different conditions to satisfy, which can refer to the person’s work background, education or even age. For instance, Subclass 462 is addressed solely to young persons with an age of minimum 18 years old to maximum 30 (they must not have reached their 31st anniversary by the time when they apply for the visa, otherwise they can’t qualify for it).
In some cases, there are annual quotas established for each nationality, while for other visas there isn’t a maximum threshold established by the law. For persons who immigrate to Australia from Turkey, for the latter visa, there are 100 visas awarded each year. We invite you to contact us for assistance on the visa application process.
